SOLYTE MAKES ITS PRESENCE FELT LIGHTLY
In 2007, Solyte will make it presence felt in walking, running, racing, lateral training, netball, cricket, football and junior footwear. The fact that Solyte is experiencing huge success and popularity with athletes across so many sports is due to its unique lightweight properties, greater durability and cushioning. Solyte is exclusive to ASICS technical footwear and the new benchmark in midsole materials.
Solyte was developed as the result of a direct challenge to ASICS scientists to create a lighter, more durable and better cushioned midsole material for use in all ASICS footwear. Solyte is not EVA, but an all-new advanced copolymer with extraordinary weight saving properties due to its low density. It weighs 30% less than ASICS SpEVA, and 50% less than standard EVA midsole material. In addition, Solyte’s unique mechanical properties far exceed the most stringent standards for tensile strength, elongation at failure, tear strength, compression set, energy return and shock attenuation.
In this catalogue ASICS shoes that feature Solyte include: GEL-Assist, GEL-Kayano Walker 6, GEL-Kayano 13, GEL-Empire II, GEL-DS Trainer 12, GT-2120 and GT-2120 GS, GEL-Nimbus VIII, GEL-Trail Sensor WR, GEL-Ohana Racer, GEL-460TR, GEL-Netburner Pass, GEL-Netburner Professional 3, GEL-Netburner IGniteS, GEL-Advance, GEL-Lethal Ultimate IGS 3, GEL-Lethal Hybrid and GEL-Lethal Rugby Pro.
‘TWIST’ GEL CUSHIONING SYSTEM
ASICS ‘Twist’ GEL Cushioning now appears in the forefoot of the GEL-Kayano 13, GEL-Empire II, GEL-Evolution II, GEL-Netburner IGniteS, and then in the rearfoot of the GEL Lethal Ultimate IGS 3, GEL-Lethal Ultimate Jnr 3 and GEL-Lethal 9.
In the forefoot the bulk of the ‘Twist’ GEL remains focussed under the ball of the foot and two irregular V struts extend to the extreme lateral border of the shoe. These V struts are visible before and after the lateral flex point of the forefoot. As the heel lifts off, and load transfers from lateral to medial, the V struts accept load, and deform in multiple planes. As propulsion continues, the ‘Twist’ GEL component of the new forefoot GEL is recruited, resulting in very effective shock attenuation, and a brilliant ride.
SPACE TRUSSTIC SYSTEM WITH V-TRUSSES
ASICS Space Trusstic System with V-Trusses first appeared in January 2006 in the GEL-Kayano XII, GT-2110 and GEL-Evolution II. In 2007 this revolutionary Trusstic System will also appear in the GEL-Kayano Walker 6, GEL-Nimbus VIII, GEL-Netburner Pass and GEL-Netburner Professional 3.
The V-Trusses in the plastic Space Trusstic are designed to increase the torsional rigidity of the unit without compromising the windlass mechanics effect of the shoe. It is a complex concept simply executed in typical ASICS fashion; V-Trusses are added according to the amount of rigidity required – the more V-Trusses the more torsional rigidity to the shoe. The system is then classified according to its category; light bracing for the cushioning category; medium bracing for the structured cushioning category; and maximum bracing for the maximum support category.
SPACEMASTER-UV
GEL-Kayano 13 features the brilliant new upper material Spacemaster-UV, which utilises a complex cross-shaped polyester filament compound of special lightweight ceramics inspired by the unique properties of marine coral. A normal polyester filament is round and solid, however the Spacemaster-UV filament has four deep channels running the length of the filament making the material 30% lighter. The unique channel pattern also helps to wick away moisture and promote faster drying. The ceramic composition has reflective properties that shield the UV rays, creating a cooler shoe environment.
